WSET Level 2 Award in Beer passed with distinction! 🤓

Hello! We started the year reaping the rewards of the first steps in this journey of embracing the beer! Yesterday, while it was snowing outside, I received a registered letter I didn’t even know was on its way to me. To my surprise, I finally received the certificate for the WSET course I began in September of last year. I had already received the results by email, but I wanted to wait for the physical certificate to share the news with you. As I mentioned in one of my earliest posts, I enrolled in this WSET course to have some structure to start studying for the BJCP exams. Also, to give my motivation a boost and keep procrastination at bay.

The course was relatively short, starting in mid-September and running through the end of October. Each week, we had a new module. However, we have access to all the classes and discussions for a year. One of the things I found most interesting was the systematic beer evaluation exercises (yes, tasting 🍻), which complemented the theoretical material very well, along with access to a tutor for any questions we might have.

At the end of the course, the certification depended on an online exam. I had never taken a test requiring "self-monitoring" before, and it was quite amusing to have to set up my phone to record myself via a specific platform while answering the questions on my computer.

In short, there were 50 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. The certification is awarded as follows: "Pass" for scores between 55% and 69%, "Pass with Merit" for scores between 70% and 84%, and "Pass with Distinction" for scores above 85%. Your brewventurer guy here scored 94% on the test and therefore PASSED WITH DISTINCTION! (applause for me 👏👏👏 thank you!).

And what changes now? Probably nothing! Haha, just kidding. Now, besides thinking I know a little about beer, I also have a certificate to prove that I actually do know something. I’m also part of the WSET community and enjoy the other webinars and content they share. Last week, there was one about "Sours" that was really interesting. Next month, there will also be one about "Lagers," featuring a guy who has written nine books on beer. Of course, I’m already signed up. As the participation in these webinars is free for everyone, I leave you here the link and the invitation.

Along with the certificate, I also received this shiny pin to proudly ‘wear’ my certification if I ever feel the need haha

A nice touch!

And this is just the beginning. Besides continuing to study BJCP styles for the exam in March, I’ve also made another investment to further my skills and knowledge when it comes to brewing beer. But that’s a story for next week. If you think you can guess what it is, send me a message! If you have no idea, just wait—I’ll tell you next week! See you!
